1. Who this policy applies to
This Privacy Policy applies to the Boost Sports Stats mobile application, Boost websites, customer support and related services (Boost, we, us or our).
Boost is operated by Inspiring Performance Limited, NZBN 9429032795882. We are an “agency” for the purposes of the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
This policy applies both to account holders and to people whose information is entered into Boost by someone else, such as a player added by a coach or team manager.
2. What personal information means
Personal information is information about an identifiable individual. It can include a name, email address, photograph, account record, player profile, game statistic, comment, device information or another detail that identifies or can reasonably be linked to a person.
3. Information we may collect
Account and contact information
- name, email address, username and account identifiers;
- authentication, sign-in and account-security records;
- communication preferences and notification settings; and
- information you send when contacting support or providing feedback.
Team and player information
- team and club names, seasons, competitions and game details;
- player names, profile photos, positions and team membership;
- scores, selected game actions, playing time, substitutions and performance statistics;
- coach comments, notes and reports; and
- other information an authorised account holder chooses to enter.
Device, app and usage information
- IP address, device type, operating-system and app version;
- device or installation identifiers needed for authentication, security or notifications;
- usage events, synchronisation records, diagnostic information, crash logs and error reports; and
- date, time and basic technical information about requests made to our systems.
Public website statistics
On our public website, we collect basic first-party statistics about page views, browsing sessions, referral domains, device categories, App Store button clicks and successful contact submissions. These statistics do not store IP addresses, names, email addresses, message contents or full referral URLs. A random session identifier is held in the browser tab's session storage and expires after 30 minutes of inactivity. Analytics use no cookies, respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control, and records older than 90 days are removed during routine collection or reporting.
Purchases and subscriptions
We may receive subscription type, purchase status, transaction identifiers and renewal or expiry information from an app store or payment provider. Full payment-card details are normally collected and processed by that provider rather than stored by Boost.
Permission-based information
Boost may ask for access to device features such as the camera, photo library or notifications. We use that access only for the feature described when permission is requested. You can change permissions in your device settings, although this may stop the related feature from working.
4. How we collect information
We collect information:
- directly from you when you create an account, use Boost, upload content, make a purchase or contact us;
- from coaches, managers, parents, guardians or other authorised account holders who enter information about a player or team;
- automatically from the App, device and server when Boost is used; and
- from service providers such as app stores, payment providers, authentication, hosting, email, push-notification, analytics or crash-reporting providers.
5. Information entered about players and other people
A coach or manager may enter information about a player without Boost collecting it directly from that player. New Zealand privacy law requires reasonable transparency when personal information is collected indirectly.
We take reasonable steps to make this policy available to affected people. An account holder who adds someone else’s information must be authorised to do so and must provide that person—and a parent or guardian where appropriate—with a copy or link to this policy at or before the time the information is entered, or as soon as reasonably practicable afterwards.
Where we have appropriate contact details and are required to do so, we may also contact the person directly. A player does not need to hold a Boost account to ask us about information Boost holds about them.
6. Children and young people
People of every age have privacy rights. Boost is designed so authorised adults can manage team and player information, including information about younger players.
A person must be at least 16 to create their own account. Users under 18 should have permission from a parent or guardian. When adding information about a child or young person, the account holder must consider the person’s age and understanding, obtain appropriate authority or permission, collect only what is needed, and avoid unfair or intrusive content.
A parent, guardian or appropriately authorised representative may contact us about a young person’s information. We may need to verify identity and authority before responding.
7. Why we use personal information
We may use personal information to:
- create and administer accounts;
- set up teams, players, games, seasons and positions;
- record, calculate, synchronise, display and report scores and statistics;
- share information with recipients selected by an authorised user;
- provide customer service and respond to privacy, account or technical requests;
- process or confirm purchases and subscriptions;
- send service messages, security alerts and requested notifications;
- detect misuse, prevent fraud, protect accounts and maintain security;
- diagnose faults, measure performance and improve the App;
- send optional product news or marketing where permitted, with an unsubscribe option; and
- comply with law, enforce our Terms and establish or defend legal rights.
8. What happens if information is not provided
Some information is needed to create an account or deliver a feature. If required information is not provided, we may be unable to create the account, identify a player, calculate statistics, synchronise data, complete a purchase or respond to a request. Optional fields can be left blank unless the App clearly says otherwise.
9. When information may be shared
We may disclose personal information:
- to players, coaches, managers, parents, team members or other recipients selected by an authorised user;
- to suppliers that help us provide hosting, storage, backups, authentication, email, notifications, payments, analytics, crash reporting, support or security;
- to professional advisers, insurers, auditors or contractors where reasonably necessary and subject to appropriate confidentiality;
- where required or permitted by law, a court order or a lawful government or law-enforcement request;
- where reasonably necessary to prevent or address fraud, a security incident, serious harm or unlawful activity; or
- as part of a proposed or completed business sale, merger or restructure, subject to appropriate protections.
We do not sell or rent personal information. We require service providers to use information only for authorised purposes and to provide privacy and security protections appropriate to their role.
10. Overseas processing and disclosure
Some service providers or authorised recipients may be located outside New Zealand. Where personal information is disclosed overseas, we take reasonable steps to use a lawful basis and protections that are consistent with Information Privacy Principle 12 of the Privacy Act 2020.
If an authorised user deliberately shares or exports information to someone overseas, that disclosure is made at the user’s direction. The user must still ensure the sharing is lawful and appropriate.
11. Storage and security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the information and risks involved. These may include encrypted network connections, access controls, authentication, logging, backups, software updates and limits on staff or contractor access.
No internet, device or storage system is completely secure. You should protect your device and account, use a secure sign-in method, keep software updated and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
12. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy, to provide an active account, meet legal and accounting requirements, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, maintain security or enforce agreements.
When information is no longer required, we delete it or de-identify it. After an account-deletion request is completed, information is removed from active systems within a reasonable operational period. Limited copies may remain temporarily in secure backups until those backups are overwritten in the normal cycle, or longer where retention is required by law.
Aggregated or de-identified information that can no longer reasonably identify a person may be retained for analysis and service improvement.
13. Accessing or correcting information
You can ask for access to personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct information that is wrong, incomplete or misleading. Account holders can update some information directly in the App.
Email info@boostsport.nz with enough detail for us to identify the relevant information. We may need to verify your identity or, where you act for someone else, your authority. We will respond in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and will not normally charge for a straightforward request.
14. Deleting an account or information
An account holder can initiate account deletion through Settings → Account → Delete Account in the App. You can also contact us if you cannot access the App. Deleting the App from a device does not delete the account and does not cancel an app-store subscription.
Account deletion removes or de-identifies account information and associated content that we are not legally required to keep. We may retain limited records where needed for billing, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution or legal compliance.
Information already exported or shared with another authorised recipient may remain with that recipient. A player can also ask us to review, correct or remove their profile information even if they do not have their own Boost account.
15. Emails, notifications and marketing
We may send essential account, service, security, purchase or privacy messages. You cannot always opt out of messages needed to operate or protect your account.
Optional marketing emails will include an unsubscribe method. Push notifications can be managed in Boost or device settings. Turning off notifications may affect reminders or other requested features.
16. Website cookies and similar technology
Boost websites may use cookies or local storage that are necessary for security, sessions, preferences or basic site operation. If optional analytics or similar technology is used, it should be described through an appropriate notice or consent control. The three About, Terms and Privacy pages do not need advertising cookies.
17. Privacy breaches
If a privacy breach occurs, we will assess it, take reasonable steps to reduce harm and notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and affected people where required by the Privacy Act 2020.
18. Third-party services
Apple, other app stores and linked third-party services handle information under their own privacy policies. Their practices are outside our direct control. We encourage you to review their privacy information, particularly for purchases, device services and external links.
19. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Boost, our providers, the law or our privacy practices change. We will publish the revised effective date and, where a change is material, take reasonable steps to notify account holders.
